- With the river receding, we are asking residents to return any sandbags that were used. Please return them to the location where you got them - there are pallets located along Lillie Lane, Rodeo Drive, around the 3rd Ave SE berm, and at the city shop. Public works will start moving pallets of sandbags back into storage Thursday morning, 6/27/2024, so please have them returned by that time. We ask that no more than 50 sandbags are stacked on a pallet. We appreciate your assistance!
- Some parks and trails still have barricades up - please do not go around the barricades. Staff will clean facilities and trails as they dry up, but some areas need more time to dry out than others. The barricades will be removed once those amenities are safe to use.
- Lastly, thank you to our community for pulling together and looking out for your neighbors - we are Pine Island Strong!

- The rivers should crest today and will hopefully start receding. There will be one more small storm system moving through this afternoon which has the potential to bring more rain. Less than an inch of rain is predicted, however this could affect already flooded areas.
- Sand and sandbags are still available at the city shop if area residents are in need.
- Do not play in flooded areas! The current can be dangerous and the water is very unsanitary. Please stay out of flooded areas and flooded parks.
- Due to the high flood waters, the city had to do a controlled release at the treatment plant today, 6/22/2024.
6/21/2024 4:50PM
- The city will be proactively staging pallets of sandbags at the following locations for those residents to use: Rodeo Drive, Lillie Lane and around the 3rd Ave SE berm.
- The city shop will remain open through the evening and weekend for Pine Island area residents to make their own sandbags as well. We ask that residents only take sandbags if they are in the flood plain, live along the rivers or have flooded in the past to help extend resources.
For after-hours emergency contacts:
Questions regarding sewer backups, contact Todd Robertson at 507-259-5301
Questions regarding streets or general public works, contact Bryce Grobe at 507-923-5795
We have city officials closely monitoring the river levels and overnight weather predictions. We will continue to post as we receive more information.

The City of Pine Island is in a flood watch with the current high-water levels and potential for more rain. City officials are closely monitoring the river levels along with rain predictions to ensure public safety.
Here’s what you need to know:
- The city is not currently at a level of action to sandbag critical infrastructure. This could change at any time depending on weather conditions.
- If you are concerned about flooding into your home, we will have sandbags and sand available at the city shop at 502 3rd Ave NE until 4:00 PM today, Friday, 6/21/2024 for residents to fill. We will evaluate later today and update the hours if necessary.
- Remember, water backups in waterways, yards, or on streets does not necessarily mean there is flooding. When a large amount of water falls quickly, the storm sewer system may not keep up. As time passes, the storm sewer system will catch up and continue the drainage of water.
- Do not play in parks or waterways if flooded. Most of our city parks are located in the flood plain and it is expected to see some flooding. Floodwater current is dangerous and unsanitary.
Don’t drown, turn around!
