Energy Usage

Xcel Energy is the energy provider for this proposed project site. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and the State Legislature regulate energy companies and electric utilities. Permits and guidelines regarding energy usage are not reviewed or approved at the city level. The city does not have information regarding the project's potential energy usage at this time.

Xcel Energy MN Data Center Regulation Information Sheet

On February 24, 2025, Xcel Energy announced that they entered into an agreement with Google to provide the energy for this development. Under the agreement, Google will pay all costs for its new service in line with Minnesota’s regulatory and legislative requirements for large loads. Additionally, Xcel and Google are partnering to bring an additional 1,400 MW of Wind, 200 MW of solar, and 300 MW of long-duration energy storage to the grid.

On April 15, 2026, Xcel Energy filed its Electric Service Agreement and Interconnection Agreement with the PUC. You can find this filing under Docket number 26-170 (M). download
