Cooling System

Data centers require specific cooling systems to prevent computer hardware from overheating. There are many different options that companies use to complete the cooling process, but there are two primary methods used in the industry.
- Open-Loop (evaporative) Cooling: requires a constant daily draw of new water, which is evaporated into the atmosphere to pull heat away from the servers. This method is water intensive.
- Air-Cooled, Closed-Loop Cooling: Water is circulated continuously through a closed loop of internal tubes, and large ambient-air fans blow across the tubes to dissipate heat. This eliminates the need for a daily water draw for cooling.
The initial project is designed with advanced mechanical systems specifically engineered to protect local water resources. The facility plans to use advanced air-cooling technology, which eliminates consumptive water use for cooling. The closed-loop chilled water system transfers heat to the ambient air without ever exposing the water to the atmosphere. Because this system is sealed and self-contained, it prevents evaporation while eliminating the need for a constant supply of fresh water.
